How many years of sales experience did you have prior to working for SHC?
After completing 6 successful years in the United States Air Force, I took a position with a small computer company in Scottsdale, AZ. I was promoted to National Sales Manager until I left to open my own business.
In March of 1992, I opened an Interior Design Store that specialized in Furniture, Carpet, Tile, Shutters and Window Coverings, etc. I owned the store until larger corporations moved in and forced myself and several competitors completely out of the market. I vowed to find a position where I represented the larger corporations in an effort to never get forced out again. These experiences gave me a total of 14 years in the sales industry.
What was the most difficult part of your learning curve with SHC?
I had not done a lot of over night travel before this position. I think in the first six months I slept in my bed for a total of 2 weeks. I wouldn't trade a second of it. It really forced me to focus on work. I do not believe I would be where I am today if I had not been traveling when I first started. What I say was the most difficult thing to overcome, I now recognize as an asset.
