How many years of sales experience did you have prior to working for SHC?
I had absolutely no sales experience before working at SHC. I graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Accounting and went to work in Big 6 Public Accounting for Coopers & Lybrand. I had always wanted to do sales, as I felt my personality was a perfect fit. However, I did not want to sell anything that I did not feel was a good product and something truly needed by the client. Furthermore, I wanted to work with a good company that took care of their staff. I certainly found all of this with SHC.

What was the most difficult part of your learning curve with SHC?
The most difficult part of the learning curve for me with SHC was to accept the fact that I did not know everything and that my managers who had been there before were there for me in every way possible. I wanted to learn but I needed to take a step back and learn from the best of the best rather than feeling that my way was better even when I had success. In addition, I had difficulty with the idea that I needed to be an educator first in order to gain credibility with my seniors. Once the senior looked at me as someone who was completely different than anyone who had ever been in their home, the transition from educator to selling became very easy. Lastly, the idea that I would have to repeat the presentation and the risks that the senior was in numerous times before getting my point across was difficult to grasp. I felt as though the senior should understand everything I said the first time through it. However, upon realizing that this is new information for them and that they needed my help to walk them through it, that enabled me to gain further credibility and make the sales process that much more thorough and successful.
